The iconic Tangalooma Wrecks on Moreton Island are also a most spectacular scene from above. These fifteen vessels were deliberately sunk in 1963 to create a safe anchorage for boats on the western side of the island. Sadly, the tops of the wrecks were removed for safety reasons in 2015 but the site remains a popular snorkeling and dive location. You can swim out to The Wrecks from the beach but beware of the strong currents that pass through this area when the tide is running!
